Ilișua locality is certified since 1321. The first locality's landlord was Ilosvai György, the locality's name comes from his name (Ilosva - in hungarian). In 1586 a new owner Gencsi János appears whose family owns the village for 150 years, starting with the second half of XVII century.

The Gencsis built here a spectacular manor. Here the poet Ilosvai Selymes Péter was born, in whose memory the village's name becomes Selymesilosva. Being situated in a secluded area it was protected from the Tartars and Turkish incursions but not from plagues which decimated the population.
