The medieval alley located at approx. 2 km from the current town, on the shores of Crișul reached this site, located above the river level, in the 18th century. In the mountains near the city was placed the Piatra Soimului fortress, a military center, which defined the history of the city. The first owner and builder of the fortress was Pál (1224-1264), the son of Écs I. Over the years, the fortress and the town had several famous owners: Bocskai, Báthory, Rákóczi György II, Bánffy, finally in 1779 Gets into the property of Battyhány György. His son József builds the castle, the hospital today. In the spring of 1944 in Alesd more than 300 Jews were deported to the death camps.
