Adress: The Roman-Catholic BasilicaBuilt between 1752-1780, the roman-catholic Basilica is the biggest baroque monument in the country. The project was built in 1950 by the Austrian architect Franz Anton Hillebrant but the constructions hadn't begun until 1752. The Basilica is composed by a principal navy with a length of 70 m and a latitude of 30-40 m. The walls are covered with marble of Vaşcău and Carrara. It has two secondary navies and two towers. As the result of the death of the Italian architect the works were re-established by the architect Domenico Luchini in 1762, together with the beginning of the construction of the Bishop Palace. The Basilica gives place to the reliquary with the relic of St. Ladislas witch participate periodically at religious processions around the church followed by a huge number of believers. The relic is a bust of 60 cm made of gold-plated silver. It's a reliable copy of St. Ladislas features and it imply a piece of his skull. The legend says that the body of the king was buried as well in the Basilica. In 1991 the pope Joan Paul II advanced the range of this church to the one of a basilica. In the front of the church there is the bronze statue of St. Ladislas. Beside this there is another statue of the famous king, witch was set up after the restoration in 2000 (it was covered of asphalt 52 years in the years of the communism). This is the oldest statue sculpted in stone in baroque style from Oradea. The Basilica together with the Bishop Palace and the canon row constitute the catholic complex of the town.
