Halmeu is a locality situated in Satu Mare county, with a population of 3564 inhabitants.

The first wooden church of the locality was destroyed by the Tartars in 1241. Instead it was built in 1332 a church without a tower, but of stone, which passed with the believers to the reformers in 1571. Catholic religion disappeared for a period , until the appearance of the first missionaries. In 1634 Jesuits, later the Franciscans spread the Catholic faith. In 1736 the parish of Porumbești was restored, in 1744 the faithful recovered the church and Halmeu became a branch of the Porumbești parish.

Between 1829 and 1834, a church with a wooden tower was built with the help of Bishop Hám János. The stone tower was built after the earthquake of 1893. The altar and pulpit were made in 1894 in Graz. The interior was painted in 1929 by Tóth Gyula in Satu Mare.
