The first documents about the village of Târnava date back to 1331. The church without a tower was built at the end of the 15th century, the beginning of the 16th century. In all likelihood the works were finished in 1505 visible on the outside of the sacristy. If we surround the church, we can see the 10 gables, the Gothic windows, and the beautifully ornate western gate. The bell tower is 10 m from the church.

From the fortification system made at the end of the 16th century, the 9 m high wall has almost nothing left, only the southern and eastern towers have resisted the time. The church ship is vaulted, the medieval chapel, the organ was made in 1796 by the Sighisoara S. Martz. The triptyard altar built between 1480-1490 was handed over to the Bruckenthal Museum in Sibiu, and the present one has a painting by Diemarsch in 1871.
