József Eötvös and Pauler Tivadar, religions and culture ministers were founding spiritual Faculty of Cluj established in October 1872. He had four specializations, including medicine, from the late nineteenth century has clinics located east of the university library.

Clinics until 1919 were led by Engel Gábor, a pioneer of gynecological surgery. The oldest building is the Anatomy Department, it was built in 1888-1889 after the project by Hauszmann Alajos. Surgery followed buildings, Interior, gynecology and maternity, and later Ophthalmology, Dermatology and to the management building. The County Polyclinic was built in 1970 and the Heart Institute in 1990.
